Community Gardening

The Alex Wilson Community Garden, located at 552 Richmond Street West, is a wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The area is divided up into 40 plots, each tended by someone, or a group of people, from our community. Westside Montessori School has plot #34 and our thumbs are getting green! The Garden was initiated as a memorial to the life and work of Alex Wilson, a landscape designer, writer and community activist.

The children have been to the garden for a few visits and are thrilled to see the plants growing and hear the birds singing. Last Friday afternoon, Ellery, Cameron and I went for a walk to a greenhouse at Queen and Euclid, where we looked, felt and smelled our way through a variety of plants and flowers in search of the perfect inhabitants for our plot at the community garden. We look forward to a season of gardening, meeting our neighbours and relaxing at the garden.
